Somewhere between the Starbucks holiday cups and the CN tower lit up like a Christmas tree, I finally realized that the holiday season is upon us. You wouldn’t know it by the Vancouver-like weather Toronto has been experiencing as of late, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are a mere 19 shopping days left until Christmas! That also means just about three weeks left to listen to all of your favourite holiday tunes, without seeming like a crazy person. My favourite carols are usually the less religious & obviously Christmas-y of the classics, like “Winter Wonderland”, “Sleigh Ride”, and “Let It Snow!” Plus you’ve got so many covers to choose from (though no one can beat renditions by Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald, in my own humble opinion). My absolute favourite, though, has got to be “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” despite its themes of date rape and peer pressure [tsk, tsk].
Check out my top five versions of the classic duet below:
5. Johnny Mercer & Margaret Whiting – Sweet as pie vocals.
4. Norah Jones & Willie Nelson – Norah, can you do no wrong?
3. Glee! – The song enters the 21st century. Love Kurt’s coy facial expressions.
2. She & Him – Remember when Zooey made this song her own while singing in the shower in Elf?
1. Dean Martin – I’m a sucker for Dino.
ahhh, great selections…. you were obviously raised with the appropriate sensibilities!
My favorite Christmas song too, I’m a hopeless romantic.
